KK Cafe : Ampersand Specialty Coffee & Co-workplace, Bandaran Berjaya

 It was always relaxing and calm to have a cuppa during the night. 

And it is also a norms to see me around at cafes, especially at that few cafes in town.



Ampersand was introduced by a friend of mine who was older than us by many years and Bandaran Berjaya was a place where he grew up at. As for me, I only remembers the KFC outlet which located there. 

Ampersand was operated by young adult of engineer and designer. The interior design of the cafe maintained the vintage environment and blended with classic design.





I do not mention much on the coffees and cakes. ;) Possibly I love the time I'm spending there and the work space that I could have there!

While I was browsing through online for my latest shopping list, I've came across ProductNation, a site for all types of reviews and shopping recommendation.

Interestingly, reviews of latest iPhone X to best digital cameras and even recommendation of beauty products are available and I could easily check via single website only, instead of browsing here and there and with creative keywords too.


For one person like me, I rather spend my time in one website that inclusive of all kinds of consumer  favourites. Morever, ProductNation is a Malaysian website too! Boy, it does suits us more with all the comparison of similar products, best price and best online shop to go for.


Many of you know that I love to travel and also a foodie, camera always one of the best companion of mine for years and replaced my cameras every few years.

Always searching for a good camera each time and searching one site to another just for the good and within my budget recommendation.

Finally, I found Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100 III that suits my needs  on 8 Best Digital Camera for All Ages and Skill Levels. 

A good camera makes a good memory when times goes by, beautiful photos as remembrances and sharing.

Holidays Dress Up Nails with MANIQURE

My finger is not long and beautiful. Dressing up them is the way to look prettier not boring.

Well, I would rather keep my head in peace and browse through their apps that applicable to IOS system only. Relaxing Foot Spa that served by a young sweet girl and softly treated our tiring foot and muscle.


My manicurist designed for me with the blending of pastel colour and pearls. Both that I preferred and they even designed my nail arts and painted my nails based on the top that I were during my visit. How sweet of them.


The holiday nails and my gel nails still looking good after one week.



Series of nails colours and organised nail arts designs in a boxed booklet for customers to easily referred when they lost of ideas.






A pampering session always the best during weekend, especially for a person like me. At least could separate from the hectic life for hours. ;)

KKCity : The Nyonya Taste at Grinders Cafe

Happy New Year to You! You! and You! All of You!

We managed to visit Grinders Cafe on the first week of 2018. The week when we were just return from our Ipoh trip. Yeah~ Twice Ipoh Trip in a year!


- The Entrance to Grinders Cafe -

Grinders Cafe can be easily located at KK City, especially when we are driving along the main street of Kota Kinabalu from down town to Sembulan. The cafe is facing opposite to Segama, same block as Winner Hotel.


-By the window -

I always admire the seats by the window. It's like a quiet space, maybe reading or for a cuppa.





- Instant White Coffee -

In fact, Alvin, the cafe owner is a Peranakan (Baba Nyonya to be exact) from Malacca (Melaka). Therefore, it's not unusual to see products from Malacca at the cafe.

Mentioning about Grinders' instant coffee they have, its all the way from Malacca we can taste the famous "Lao Qian 老钱" White Coffee here.

How did I know about the brand earlier? It's because I was make known during our trip at Ipoh. Brother told us that Lao Qian White Coffee taste good and recommended! Since we were there, we bought a few packets for home.


- Spaghetti Pomodora E Basilico accompanied with Asam-asam Manis -
 
Besides tomato sauce (red sauce), Grinders Cafe do serve Carbonara (White Sauce) as well.

Each dish served was special designed by the chef. Taste different from the usual we had, they added herbs and overall pasta taste fine.


- Meatball -

Beef/ Chicken meatball with home made mashed potatoes, black pepper sauce and berry sauce in actual.

Meatball was specially sourced from Sabah native.


- Batik Cake -

Home made Batik Cake. Specially prepared by Alvin, recipe from his mother. It was not extra soggy and not too sweet either. 

It's served daily with limited quantity. With pure coco powder (not mixed) is one of the main ingredient of Grinders In House Batik Cake.


- Toasted Bread with Home made Kaya -

For those who know how to make "Kaya", it is not an easy task. Special home made Kaya is also one of the recommended at Grinders.


- Nasi Lemak Special -

Blue rice Nasi lemak Special is a hot seller, they only serve limited quantity daily. The special Sambal sauce would be the one that we should have high expectation, especially Alvin told us that's the Baba Nyonya taste.

Grinders Cafe also offer local favourites to locals and tourists. The Bird Nest products price will be range from RM55.00 to RM480.00.

Alvin is one of the perfectionist that I came across while meeting cafe owners in person. He will not include any products that never try and tasted before.


- The walkway -

Grinders Cafe shall be one of the convenient cafe that tourists could simply walk in for a cup of coffee or a simple lunch. 

Price vice? Similar and reasonably priced. Coffee/ Beverages would be ranged from RM4.00, Tea RM8.00. Food is ranged from RM2.00 (Kaya Bun and Red Bean Bun), Nasi Lemak (RM5.00) to RM12.00 (Home made Mushroom Soup).

I read a lot of "stories" about the Year of Dog this year. Well, it's just a Lunar Zodiac sign that we have been celebrating on every 12 years. Why need to complicate and raised such matter to influence while affecting the harmony of our Malaysia? *sigh*

Sabah : Delicious Food Galore at Bunga Raya Island Resort & Spa

It's been a long time since the last we step our feet on the sandy beach of Bunga Raya. Say 5 years ago?

Depart from Jesselton Point, Kota Kinabalu, it takes more or less 20 minutes to reach Bunga Raya Island Resort & Spa, which located on the largest Gaya Island of Sabah.

- Bunga Raya Island Resort & Spa -

A familiar bridge while arrived at the island resort. Breezy and relaxing island away from crowded city.

Did I told you that, all of us are able to visit the island resort and even better to enjoy the facilities available as well. Sound interesting and fun right? Yea, I bet you would love to know more of it! Worth for every penny with such excellent hospitality.



- The Beach -

In Kota Kinabalu city itself, we could hardly see such quiet beach now a days, it is frequently crowded with tourists, especially during sunset.

I love to enjoy the breeze, but somehow not the sun. I'm not a good swimmer, how disappointing.


- Infinity Pool -

While having a swim in the pool, we are able to see the infinite sea level. I always admire infinity pool. someday I should visit Bali for that perfect view as well, and for sure with my love one privately. ;)


- The Main Restaurant -


- Wine Cellar -

Having an in house wine cellar would be such a favourable place to be at. A glass or two for the night as well. Bunga Raya Island Resort's Wine Cellar is one of the award winning wine cellar for continuous years.

We were impressed that the wine cellar itself kept more than thousand of wines with price that are more than thousand of Ringgit.

- The Saturdate -

Three of us hardly see each other at one time now a days, just way busy for life and work.


- The Pantai Restaurant & Bar -

Surprisingly, The Pantai Restaurant & Bar had totally upgraded to another level. It used to be a small outdoor restaurant with a few tables.

Now, it's a new building for leisure and delicious food, next to the sea. Blended in with turquoise colour, mirror of reflection that reflecting the nature from outside to inside the restaurant.

In the other hand, we also had a scrumptious meal with the island resort higher management personnel. I must say that I would really love to return to the island resort for day trip once in a while. Excellent dining experience, thus enjoying their facilities.

Seared Hokkaido Scallop, Bell Pepper Coulis


 
- Refresher -

Sorbet

Cold and refreshing sorbet that loved by many of us. It's delicious.


- Main Course -

Pan Seared Organic Grouper Fillet, Crispy Lotus, Pak Choy, Cherry Tomatoes and Chablis Beurre Blanc Sauce

Fresh organic fish from farm which also known as their sister company. I must say that their fishes are always freshly served.


- Main Course -

Grass fed Tenderloin, Asparagus, Paris Mushroom, French Foie Gras and Red Wine Beef Jus

I believe that the skill of a good chef can be known by tasting their tenderloin prepared. Medium rare tenderloin was just nice for me, topped with French Foie Gras was perfect for me.

Gold Dusted 
Spinach Opera Cake
Pandan Cream Brulee
Profiteroles Vanilla Ice Cream

There's always a space for desserts in a woman theory. Which one is my favourite? I may say Pandan Cream Brulee and Profiteroles Vanilla Ice Cream!

Are you excited to know about the day trip I have mentioned earlier?! 

With RM180.00 per person, we are able to dine in while experiencing all of the complimentary activities at the island resort, including Kayaking (1 hour), Snorkeling and etc. The full list would be as follow.

KK Food : Sabah Chilli Pan Mee 沙巴辣椒板面 @ Lintas

In fact, Sabah Chilli Pan Mee is not a new restaurant from the block. It was quite a successful restaurant that somehow maintained their quality and makes me return for their signature dish once in a while.

There's quite a number of negative comments when they just started their business, as for now, with lots of  improvements, they are running well and opened a new branch at Gaya Street too.


 - Signature Pan Mee -

Handmade Pan Mee, Minced Pork, Anchovies, Half boiled egg, special ingredients and homemade dried chilli to be added with our preference.

The image above was taken months ago, when I first visited their restaurant while they are still new. The egg was 80% boiled, which less with its runny egg yolk. However, it used to be that, but not recent. They have improved in many site.

Mix all the ingredient and that's their signature Pan Mee. ;)

- Vegetarian Thali -

It was my first attempt having Banana Leaf Rice in KK. Especially at a nice Indian fusion restaurant (Indian + Western Wine & Dine) where we could have alcohol as well. 

They are now serving lunch  till 3.00pm for Vegetarian Thali set (with milk tea) at RM10.90. Drop by if you are going Imago and while you are near to KK Times Square! 


- How to eat Thali? -

Most of us were wondering how to eat Thali when all the side dishes were arranged in small portion and in stainless steel Indian utensil.

After being taught (watch the video), we only knew that all the vegetables and gravy shall be added on to the white rice and mixed them.


- The Hulk Angry Burger - 

Where Beef meat Chicken and Snapper. It's a huge burger that could be a shared portion for two. Instead of processed meat, all ingredients are fresh, homemade beef patty, larger chicken chop and grilled snapper.  

I would really give it a second try when I return to Radha's.



- Aqua Man Aglio Olio -

When we were being served, I was amazed with the size of the tiger prawn. The menu said it's all. 


- Seafood Pizza -

I love this their pizza. Generous seafood, thin crust pizza. I had a few slices that night!


- THOR Beer Mussel and BBQ Chicken Wing -

Yes, THOR, the Marvel's Thor that we know! The restaurant having a concept of more to interesting and homey feel that you will felt like home in some sense.

Surprisingly Beer Mussel was good and dip it with the garlic bread, so we won't feel too creamy.


- The Unrevealed Dish -

It's a new menu that will be launching soon!

All in one with grilled Chicken, Masala dip and fried rice.


- Rib Eye Steak -

Modern living and it's just classy to be paired with wine.


- Guinness Lamb -

We were full with amazing creative dishes by Radha's, I love the fragrant of western dining with added alcohol marinated meat.

It was an honour to be invited to attend the Official Grand Opening Ceremony of Dynasty Chinese Restaurant. I always heard about how delicious their Dim Sum would be and I used to go for their Dim Sum once in a while. Yes, they are delicious as we said.

Y.B. Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, Minister of Tourism, Culture & Environment was the Guest of Honour for the official grand opening of the refurbished Dynasty Chinese Restaurant.

After three months of elegant facelift, Dynasty Chinese Restaurant is open for operation, offering innovative culinary delights amid a modern, stylish and with elegant setting.

With loud crackling sounds of firecrackers to commemorate the auspicious event graced by Y.B. Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, Minister of Tourism, Culture & Environment and hotel's Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Adrian Wei.

- Dim Sum : Crystal Prawn Dumplings -

Never refuse dim sum when it comes to Chinese cuisine.  Many asked "Does Dim Sum made of chicken delicious?" I may say yes, which we should give them a try, especially with a country with mixed culture.


 

Our dining experience was great that night, with delicious Chinese dishes and entertainment programme that reflects the Chinese culture. It's wonderful.



Entering the restaurant, the first sight was the whole restaurant was redesigned and totally different from the previous. Using elements of woods and blooming flower concept, the overall design and decoration of Dynasty Chinese Restaurant created a sense of tranquillity while we could enjoy a while new dining experience.

Built in 1782 and a home of 150 years for Thai-King, the Royal court and administrative seat of government.

I love true story that marked the value of life. Before we went for a free and easy trip in Bangkok, visiting The Grand Palace was one of my must visit list.



Our cab left us behind The Grand Palace and we walked slowly to the front gate while waited for the gate to open for public.

You can't imagine the crowd, from students to foreigners/ tourists, especially China people. I wonder do they admire the architecture like I do every where in the world. I do love architectural work that inspire me to explore the world in so many ways.



- Royal Reception Hall -



We need to wear decently to respect the tradition and buddha.








Ever wonder the how Emerald Buddha (Phra Kaew Morakot) looks? 

Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of Emerald Buddha) is regarded as the most important temple in Thailand, which located within The Grand Palace that keeps the Buddha that carved from a single block of jade. 

Every architecture and arts that we saw during the visit, just pure craftsmanship. Amazing.

I never regret to make the decision to visit The Grand Palace. Highly recommended if you happen to visit Bangkok someday!

Do you recall on the cafe that located at our neighborhood for ten years since 2008?


 That's UP2U Cafe! 

Maintaining the taste for years and now with more varieties, in addition with beers and shisha after a good dinner.

A night with good meal with friends! Without explaining much, we had so many food that night as follow.

The travelers always recommend that Yu Kee Bak Kut Teh is one of the must eat spot when friends and family came to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Located at one of the exclusive place in KK City while convenient for tourist to have an experience of our lovely city of nature resort.


What is Bak Kut Teh? BKT in short, which having pork and organs simmered for hours in soup of herbs and spices (such as star anise, cinnamon, cloves, dang gui and garlic). 

Is a type of Chinese food that the labour from the olden days at the port to energise their energy and maintain their health to work harder. The explanation that I mentioned here is stated by one of the BKT restaurant at Port Klang when I was there months ago. ;)


Even my uncle and auntie from Canada always came here for this local taste of BKT. They felt that returning to KK will not be complete without Yu Kee Bak Kut Teh.


For me, I am the local here, and yes, once in a while i will be here for bowls of varieties and recommend to my friends from other places too. Remember be there early to taste the authentic taste of savoury Yu Kee Bak Kut Teh!

How to be a BLOGGER? 

How to be a VLOGGER?

Many were asking how to be one, and especially to be a good one.


It was happened on 4th April, 2018 that I was invited to be a speaker at Film Camp 2018 April Edition.

It was my first becoming a speaker for sharing about Lifestyle Blogger and Vlogger. I was nervous and getting calmer after speaking for a short while.

The respond from the floor was good, interesting sharing conversation with friends, bloggers and even Youtubers!

 

How to be a Blogger or a Vlogger?

To be either one, we need to have a platform, free or not free. 

A Blogger need a blog. A Vlogger (Video + Blog) need a Youtube account or did a short clip of any daily stories and upload it at any social media platform!

Anyone can start a blog, it's the passion that we are looking at and it's free language to write online! I started blogging since 2006. :)  

Blog and Vlog, as easy as it seen. ;) And I have both!

So and so, to be successful, we might need to work on the topics that we include in both.

Sabah : Exploring Survivor Island (Pulau Tiga) with Borneo Eagle Resort

Sabah Island : Pulau Tiga 

It was my first visit to Pulau Tiga and I am excited with how the time freeze with the beautiful scenery captured by the eye.

Woke up and get ready to hop on the tour bus that being arranged. From Jesselton Point, the journey took 2 and a half hour ride to Kuala Penyu. From Kuala Penyu jetty, we reach Borneo Eagle Resort within 20 - 30 minutes with the speed boat available.

Every corner looks like a drawn scenery.

The resort was officially started operating on the day before we were there, which made we were the first guests that visited the resort. From the exterior, interior architecture, their water system, the rooms decoration amazed us quite a lot. 

The environment and the surrounding suits us that really would love to go for a quiet trip, away from our hectic city.

KK Eats : Kompia by Sarawakian found in Penampang (新福洲茶餐室 Kedai Kopi New Fu Chow)

It was a fine weekend when both of us were tempted to try something new. Since we were nearby Penampang, might as well we go and try the Rice Wine Mee Sua which recommended by our friend.


- Kompia - 

It was my first time having Kompia. Genuinely homemade by Fu Chows whom from Sarawak. It does looks like baguette, but smaller and with softer texture (crunchy outside), spread with salted pork meat in it.

In fact, I prefer Kompia as it is not frequently seen in KK.

I heard that this kopitiam serving Kompia daily. :)


- Rice Wine Mee Sua -

I love rice wine and my mom can make good rice wine as well!

My comment after tasting the mee sua, I would prefer mee sua with thicker rice wine flavour. Which I knew that we can request for additional rice wine if it tasted not satisfying. Silly me that I didn't knew that. 

Hmm... I might think of visiting here again this weekend to have another bowl of mee sua. Hopefully this time would be better and satisfying!

Sabah Fest 2018 : "Solungkoi" (A Tale of Jambatan Tamparuli)

Sabah : The Land Below The Wind

It is May again and it's a month of Harvest Festival Celebration!

Sabah Fest organised by local Sabah Tourism Board and relevant parties caught a lot of attention yearly since the first event held many years ago. 

This year is related to "Jambatan Tamparuli", that's made me interested to attend the event. I was brought up with the song "Jambatan Tamparuli", my dad is a native and love to listen to music and karaoke, while my mom having an entertainment business during my childhood. Local songs were played while we were at my mom shop back then. In the other hand, I was the co-host for Foodie Blogger by NTV 7 and once of the scene was shot at Tamparuli too!






I love culture and I always do, maybe it's because I'm having the native bloods runs in me. Yes, I am Sino. :)

The following are some of the scenes that I have shared here and such I have experienced that night. 







What is "Solungkoi"? You may ask. 

It's a name of a young lady who were in love with a foreigner way back during those days when Sabah was under the British Colony. The performance and story line was okay, more to the love story of both. 

The story was based on true story from such I have being understood. The name was crafted by the foreigner under the bridge after "Solungkoi" was being sacrificed and can be seen today. As for the foreigner, no one knows where he went since his lover was sacrificed.

Interesting, yet beautiful performance by the local artist this year. Looking forward for next year Sabah Fest. :)

Sabah : They Say Harvest Festival in May, Is Like Sabah Style "Oktoberfest" (WHY LA!)

I bet our Harvest Festival would be a happening event in fact!

It's an annual event that Harvest Festival is one of the largest event of Sabah, it is celebrated by all the natives, the Sinos and I guess even their friends who are non- natives. Which who don't drink, right? ;)


It's been a while since the last visit to KDCA for it's happening event held annually. This year, we were wondering why the weather was so bad that it has been heavily rained and some of the core area was flooded after the heavy rain poured on the 31st May.

It was drizzling when I was there on the first day (30th) of the event, sometime in the afternoon since it was a public holiday. The weather was nice and cooling, we were able to have a walk there and I did took a short clip which you could scroll to the bottom of this post.

The highlights of Harvest Festival would be the Unduk Ngadau, definitely congratulation to al the winners. The 1st place - Inanam (Hosiani James Jaimis), 2nd place - Penampang (Sherrylyn Jane Rannytho) and 3rd place won by - Putatan (Vanessa Audrey Gilbert).


Creative snacks

Harvest Festival is the highlights, there's also snacks, beers and other interesting food and booth available at the venue. The main highlight of the food, would be the pork and lamb, varieties of dishes available for us to try!

Yes, people drinks there. And it is definitely a crowd behind every stall of finger food. And that's why it started to be known as the "Oktoberfest" in May. The Sabah style.
