Food discovery started immediately after we landed Tawau as early as 8.00 am. :) Here we are with most of the recommended restaurants and coffee shops in Tawau. Delicious!

Click on the links and read more on those which you might love to taste. Tawau, a place where nearest to Indonesia. And as we all knew, Sabah where all the culture blended together.

1. Kedai Kopi Yuan Yuan源源茶餐室

2. Aladin Noodle House亚拉丁面食之家

3. Long Chuan Tofu斗湖 龙川豆腐

4. Kedai Kopi Hong Hong鸿鸿茶室

5. Hokkien Mee by Kedai Kopi Chui Ting翠亭茶室之福建面

6. The Local Markets/ Pasar - Tanjung Market, Sunday Market and Sin On Market

8. Union Cafe 友联

That's all for the recent trip we went. :)

There are many others that recommended as well, time is a limit and should we go for another food trip soon! By the way, Mangolian Chicken also one of the best and must eat in Tawau, but we opt for other than those we had before or CHICKEN! My dad also cook Mangolian Chicken and smells just like it too! :)

Sabah - Kota Kinabalu Eats
Serve No Pork

Tavern Kitchen & Bar (Tavern). The fusion concept of Tavern caught my attention, combining the Sabahan native ingredients, local Malaysian and Western dishes and even the interior of the restaurant was interesting yet trendy.

- Tavern Kitchen & Bar -

A renowned restaurant and bar located in Imago Shopping Mall and it is also the Top 25 best restaurant in KK on Tripadvisor out of 414 restaurants.

- The Doors concept stage -

At one corner of the restaurant, it either for stage performance or tables for guests.

- Graffiti -

Art of Sabah landmarks, symbols and beauty.

It was impressive with the interior design that art pieces blended in with Sabah slang and details. Tavern interior design by Ben Firdaus, the host of Season 2 of Casa Impian (interior design TV show).

- Mango Mojito -

One of Tavern's best seller. Tasted mango with puree, rum and mint.

I love their list of beverages, there's unique cocktails and mocktails and same goes to other non-alcoholic drinks. Sumandak On Fire Flaming Cocktail, KK is Burning Flaming Cocktail, Teh Tarik Long Island and the list goes on for all the favourites!

The best part is Tavern's having Happy Hour too! Which is twice a day, from 3pm - 6pm and 10pm - 12 midnight!

 - Mac and Cheese Burger -

Homemade Charcoal Bun, macaroni and cheese. The macaroni tasted just right and just the way it suppose to be!

- Nasi Goreng Tuhau with Ayam Berempah & Bambagan -

The local fusion dish and I like the taste of the tuhau fried rice. Tuhau is a word of the native which referring to wild ginger. Fragrant fried rice with large portion that rich in flavour.

- Black Spicy Chicken Wingies -

Spicy chicken wings with crispy tuhau. The level of spiciness is acceptable, and if you would like to have even spicier, just inform the service crew.

- Spicy Sabah Seafood Pasta -

No wonder their pasta is in the favourite list, I love the taste of the pasta sauce, spicy and local, el dente pasta is a must.

- Monster Shake -

A milkshake lover must love.

- Tom Yum Seafood Soup -

- Beef Burger -

Tender beef patty with homemade charcoal bun! A choice for burger lovers.

- New Menu -

Occasionally, Tavern will create new menu at their restaurant.

With head chef, Marcel Lomangkok and team of 40 experienced chefs, bartenders and service crew, quality shown in the restaurant with one of the best service in KK.

- Vapeshot -

First in KK, the video is shown below!

- Boom Boom Sizzling Brownies -

500 plates sold WEEKLY. Instant hot and cold at one bite, it was heavenly! All of us love this! How is served? Check on below video!

An Old Town called Ipoh and Kampar, Perak

Travel Malaysia. Experiencing Journey to IPOH and KAMPAR.
@TravelokaMY #TravelokaMY #MyTravel Adventure

It was a random decision to visit Ipoh during the recent trip to Kuala Lumpur. After all, it is the motto of mine to step on the ground of any parts of Malaysia if possible and whenever convenient.

Ipoh, the city of Perak. Easily arrived there directly from Kuala Lumpur via ETS Train or long distance bus. The first impression about Ipoh from such we read from online is their varieties of food.food. and yet, still food.

As for my first impression from the moment I reached Ipoh railway station and while we were on our way to the hotel, were the old buildings each time we passes by, the heritage that left behind since 1890s and earlier as well. I was impressed and always love the heritage of a little town or in a city that we are unable to see a lot in our usual day.

Ipoh Railway Station being one of the oldest railway in Malaysia. Honestly, it was a bit spooky, but keeping it running their operation, it's a good job. Out of our expectation, it was Visit Ipoh Year and a lot of tourists and locals visited Ipoh this time of the year and especially during the weekend. We were there during week days, so we were fine with the crowd!

Avoiding us from missing our train on Saturday, the day we planned to reach KL before the wedding dinner, we purchased our return tickets before we left the railway station. And guess what? I have booked our hotel online and surprisingly without being noticed that we were actually staying at one of the recommended and most convenient place to indulge Ipoh food!

And for the 3 days 2 nights, we ate a lot of Ipoh "must eat", from "Nga Choi Gai" (Tau Geh & steamed Chicken) to the first Ipoh White Coffee kopitiam, even the original coffee shop for famous Old Town Cafe.

We did enjoy our food trail and additional journey to Kampar and sight seeing, we had one of the best woman driver ("Kakak", meaning sister in local dialect) we met in town! She was a kind Malay woman that brought us and introduced us some of the famous Malay Nasi Kanja and she knew where to visit and to eat for Chinese like us.

The first meal in Ipoh. Settled ourselves at the hotel after we reached the hotel at more or less 2.00pm. Waze to direct us to nearby recommendations and we visited "Lou Wong Kei"老黄记. Tender steamed chicken meat and crunchy "taugeh", Ipoh has been always well known with their "short and fat" taugeh, should be because of their water originated, just to let you know they are proud of it!

In fact, we met a few women from KL driving all the way to Penang and passed by Ipoh just to have a bowl of the oldest waterfall bean curd 泉水豆腐花 and continue their journey again. Had a quick talk with them since two group of us were the earliest standing in front of the shop.

Ipoh is about what again? Famous chicken, taugeh and Hor Fun that we had daily in Ipoh. What else when I was back to KL, I have avoided myself to eat chicken! LOL.

And the list goes on with our food trail exploration. Full list with "Ipoh must eat" from me will be up after sorting. :)

The breakfast. A typical Malaysian Chinese breakfast. The noodles. Ipoh also well know with the stuffed meat varieties. And we were too early to wake up and we had our breakfast two blocks away from our hotel, in a coffee shop. Out of expectation, we had the bowl of noodles which the stall owner was being interviewed by one of the local newspaper! Recommendation on them and it was really tasty!

新源隆 (Sin Yoon Loong) The first white coffee. We walked near 25 minutes from the place we were staying to the old town of Ipoh, shall I say main town of Ipoh. A busy place during the day and quiet place during the night.

15 more minutes till the shop close and we were there to taste the original, not the instant one that we had now. It was really good. The one which carried the brand of "Old Town" just located at the opposite of Sin Yoon Loong named "Nam Heong White Coffee"南香 taste delicious too, far different with the instant pack from the supermarket.

The Old Bar. We took a lot of photos when we saw this old bar. It looks really old and more over an old town. Gosh.

Concubine Lane of Ipoh. 怡保二奶巷。 There were a number of wall art in Ipoh and we also did a street art searching for some of the famous one, all the street arts are any where and the more will be drawn especially at the main town of Ipoh.

The Cold. Many of the shop owner, young and old keeps recommending us to have a try with "Snow Beer"雪花啤酒 at Concubine Lane and we had it during the first evening in Ipoh before we walk back to our hotel. The lady surprised to see you again after we met her earlier in the afternoon and we have not left that area for quit a while, we had a walk nearby and we went back for three mugs (there were three of us). I like Snow Beer and we all likes it!

Other than Snow Beer, Ipoh night life is totally different from us in KK. Ipoh night life are watching movies and hang out with family and friends at "Dessert Street" (Tong Shui Gai) 糖水街, very simple night life for normal people. There were night clubs too, just to let you know. ;)

Back to the Malay women who drove us all the way from Ipoh to Kampar. 2 and half hours ride.

We went to the famous restaurant for "Paper Wrap Chicken"纸包鸡, unfortunately all sold out and we pulled a bit of the person in charge leg to make her introduced us another one around there. So, that's how it looks below. Two type of Paper Wrap Chicken, Curry chicken or Herbs.

The Temple. Perak with majority Chinese, non the less there were a number of temples at the state. We were being told that the temple at Kampar town is a temple that believed by many and miracles happen too. The rain started when we stepped in to the temple, it's like the raining welcoming us there, it's pouring rain. Oh my.

Kellie's Castle. Kakak want us to see more during our trip and she brought us here, a castle. The love to his wife.

Ipoh Kek Lok Shi. Back in Ipoh and during the same day we went to Kampar. I begged the security to let us in when the time strike 5.00pm, one that i admire about Ipoh, the people. There are so many kind and friendly people, except for the old man Uber driver that we met at Concubine Lane.

From a small city of Kota Kinabalu to visit Ipoh, it was such a long journey. We took almost six hours to arrive and when we said we were from Sabah, they were surprised and asked a lot. One Indian that approached us and had a long talk while we were standing nearby his shop and the same person that laughed us when we took our crazy photos with streets art at the lane opposite before the day.
Well, we do enjoy our Ipoh trip and that's #MyTravelAdventure. To see the life of another Malaysian.

Inspired by contest organised by Traveloka.

Sabandar Leisure Ride, Tuaran.

It was a random decision to visit Sabandar Leisure Ride during one fine Sunday. Moreover, the place was such a happening one in fact, with all of the people nearby and even from Kota Kinabalu drive there to have a look at the new Cowboy place.

- The Cowboy Town of Sabah -

The exterior building design is interesting with the concept and designs that we normally see in television, with wooden design that shows the vintage and cowboy country side.

It was few months after they are open for public, however, it was fewer choices for refreshments.

- Sabandar Leisure Ride -

- Hi, Ivy -

Every horse which we saw there was named. For those who are interested to feed them, just pay a small sum to purchase the grasses.

- Bamboo Restaurant -

- Bamboo Restaurant -

We went to the mangrove areas where we can see mangroves, restaurant and a few rooms for private function. It was interesting and it would be a great place for small private function.

- Riding Horses -

Visitors who went there have the chance to ride a horse with fees allocated, one round of ride with professional guide.

- Sabandar Cowboy Lodge & Cafe -

More space for improvement for them. For such I heard recently, the place is upgraded with more activities now. A short visiting out of town will be a fine place here, just the hot weather made it uncomfortable.

Kota Kinabalu Eateries : Non-Halal
浓郁的中国美食料理。

I like how the food suits my taste buds, inspired by the rich and diverse culinary offering from China, espiecially from the region of Shanghai 上海, BeiJing 北京, LanZhou 兰州 and SzeChuan 四川 that are savory and spicy at most of the dishes.

- DRAGON-i -

Dragon-i was first established in Year 2004 and the outlet in Sabah is the 28th branch in Malaysia while it is also the first in Borneo which located in Imago Mall KK Times Square, a renowned shopping mall here.

The kitchen team has creatively prepared a varieties of Chinese dishes based on such Sabah could offer - The Seafood. The seafood were fresh and by what we had that day, the prawn was large. :)

- The Kitchen -

We have the opportunities to see the process of making "Siao Long Bao"小笼包 and "La Mien"拉面. The Chinese has so many to offer when it comes to eateries.

The lunch we had was scrumptious and service was excellent too. Keep it up!

The below are the new menu for Dragon-i Sabah outlet!

- 盐烧鲜鱿 Grilled Squid with Salt and Pepper -
- 三鲜菜香豆腐 Braised Spinach Beancurd with Seafood and Vegetables -

- 三杯鸡中翅 Braised Chicken Wing in Taiwanese Style -

- 三味鲜虾球 Sauteed Shrimp with Special Sauce -

 - 当红脆皮炸子鸡 Deep-fried Crispy Chicken -

 - 腐皮炒时菜 Stir-fried Seasonal Vegetables with Beancurd Skin -

- 手撕蜂巢豆腐 Braised Homemade Beancurd with Seafood -

Only that I knew that the beancurd was freeze overnight and to fried it on second day will created those holes in the beancurds. Interesting.

- 腊味有机椰菜花 Stir-fried Organic Cauliflower with Preserved Sausages -

- 椒盐元蹄 Deep-fried Pork Knuckle with Salt and Pepper -

One of the highly recommended dish, crunchy skin and soft meat. With the salt, pepper and pork knuckle, it's similar to the large German Pork Leg. Gosh, such offered by Dragon-i, the portion was nice for 8 person.

- 浓汤雪菜鱼面 La Mian wih Sliced Fish in Fish Soup -

- 鲜椒鱼片 Stewed Sliced Garoupa with Mixed Chili Peppers -

Advisable for spicy lover only, the thick gravy taste differently from those we had usually.

- 金汤海鲜拉面 La Mian with Seafood in Soup -

- 干锅土豆 Braised Potatoes in Claypot -

- 西洋菜鲜肉云吞 Minced Meat with Watercress Wontans Soup -

We were surprised when we knew that watercress can be prepared as other dish, despite from what we had normally at home - Watercress Soup with meat.

It was a delicious dining experience with Dragon-i, menu was good and price was worthwhile.

Vietnam : Presidential Palace & President Ho Chi Minh Stilt House

Vietnam : Hanoi Part 3

During our visit to Hanoi, one of the highlighted place to visit is the Presidential Palace of Vietnam. It is located in the city of Hanoi and was built between 1900 and 1906 to house the French Governor-General of Indochina.

President Ho Chih Minh was a huge influence to Vietnam's independence and economy, and as at today, President Ho Chih Minh still remain in every Vietnamese heart.

- Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum -

Before the visiting time, we were outside the main entrance and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is located nearby and facing the field. Yearly event will be held here as a remembrance of the past president.

- Presidential Palace of Vietnam -

We were not allowed to go near to the Presidential Palace. The palace is still in use and hosts government meetings. It is not open to the public, although one may walk around the grounds for a fee.

When Vietnam achieved independence in 1954, Ho Chi Minh was claimed to have refused to live in the grand structure for symbolic reasons, although he still received state guests there, he eventually built a traditional Vietnamese stilt house and carp pond on the grounds. His house and the grounds were made into the Presidential Palace Historical Site in 1975. (Wiki)

- The Vintage Vehicle -

It was one of many vehicles of the President Ho Chi Minh that I were able to took a photo, it was not allowed in fact. And so we walk about and see how is the building and the area of the huge presidential palace.

- The pond -

- The Walkway -

That President Ho Chi Minh love to go for an early exercise around the compound.

The museum is huge, collection all over the world that being presented to President Ho Chi Minh were kept here.

Vietnam - Hanoi

It was interesting to be able to visit Vietnam, especially Hanoi. Vietnam not a fancy and advance as Malaysia, but it might able to be compared with Thailand and Indonesia.

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. Lies in the North of the country and is one of the country’s top tourist hot spots. Somehow, I miss the feel and food of Vietnam and would love to re-visit there and same goes to Laos, which is a small city with pure heart.

Hanoi offers French-colonial architecture, a rich food culture and a long history (the city celebrated its millennium in 2010.) The most well known and important districts in Hanoi are Ba Dinh District (aka the French Quarter) where the government offices are located and Hoan Kiem District (aka the Old Quarter) which is considered the city’s business hub and main tourist destination.

- Hoan Kiem District (aka the Old Quarter) -

We experienced the sight seeing of the local lifestyle, with sipping coffee and tea with small bench, the motorcyclist that like school of fish. In Chinese language, they said that if we come to Hanoi, we will be looking at motorcyclist and listen to lots of honk!

- Tricycle -

A tricycle ride it would be, and the fastest way to experienced and sight seeing The Old Quarter of Hanoi.

- Temple -

Just like the Chinese, Vietnamese believes in Buddhism.

- Banh Mi -

The local eateries. It was french bread that easily found in Vietnam.

- The tricycle -

I like the smile of the cyclist. :) Although we can't understand the opposite language, we tried hard to communicate with each other :)

Hanoi, Vietnam.

With the Chinese culture around the world, we did visited the temple in Vietnam as well. As it was part of the tour, we took a walk while did a short caving as well.

We managed to see the temple which located inside the cave, a special access to the prayers. Part of it were slippery, wet, dark... About the experience? Something new to see. Knowing a new culture it's all the matters while visiting another country.

Similar to China, Vietnam known for it's nature as well. :) The interesting part when they used their feet to paddle.

A breezy air after the heavy rain and we did our tour slowly. How did it went? I bet the sight will be so much beautiful if there's no rain during the day.  :)

That's all for today! I am definitely busy with so many little things. :) Updating on that soon! :)

Sabah : The Native + Local Cuisine Series

Sabah - The Land Below the Wind

When Brother Jimmy and wife were back in Kota Kinabalu from the Britain, he would like to have all of us to gather our relative at Kinarut, where my grandfather from. :)

It was a last minute gathering and it's an interesting one when it was so long ago since the last visit back to "kampung". Some of you maybe wondering, why kampung? Am I a Chinese? Well, Sabah is well known for its mixed marriage, and I am one of the generation of the Sino (Native + Chinese). Yes, I am a Sino.

Okay, it was a fine Saturday when we were there. Many of us just greet and had a long conversation, yes, very long and since mid afternoon till almost dawn? Back to the glorious local and native food we had. Yummy! Even Brother Jimmy's wife - Margaret (a British) likes it, not all British could accept the traditional food right?

By the way, it's a potluck day and everyone bringing or cook and bring it there. My dad prepared his best dish - The Mangolian Pork belly and Chicken.

- Hinava -
Made of Bitter gourd and fresh fish fillet, add on with lime and other ingredients for the sour taste.

In fact, this is one of my favorite native dish.

Although this dish does not require any heat, the fresh fish meat will be cook when we add in the lime, it's a type of chemical reaction.

- Bambangan -

Seems like Bambangan only could be found in Sabah. It's is the mango from the wild, sweet and sour taste and we could even smell it from far far away! The native would also cut it into pieces and even the

- Fried Salted Fish -

- Tuhau -

Marinated wild ginger as appetizer or as side dish. Wild ginger does not taste hot, but more to sour after being marinated. And while typing this post, I realised that native food are more to marinated type, sweet and even sour.

- Young Jack fruit Dish -

Not sure what it is called, I remember my dad used to cook when he had the crave and when he saw the young fruit.

- Pinasakan -

Kadazandusun Dish
Non spicy, but it taste sour. Best with the Sago! Which I am not liking it much with the Sago.

- Pinasakan -

Another type of Pinasakan with spicy flavour.

- Fried Bitter Gourd -

Not a traditional dish, but all of love it! Prepared by my aunt. Crunchy would be the best texture.

Can't remember this one. It's a type of vegetables, local vegetables.

- Boiled Tapioca -

Hmm... If you ask me, I only know how it looks, instead of the name.

- Pamelo Delights -

The pamelo was from my relative backyard. It was sweet and such a delightful appetizer!

- Bubur Chacha -

Sweet potato, green bean soup. We can't categorised it as native, but I guess it's more to the "local" kind of food.

It was nice being able to gather all of us there, it was also unusual to see all of us under one roof as all of us having our own home as well. Not only the traditional food were one of the best highlight and most of it were ordered from a home seller nearby Kinarut. :) Blessed to have such a good meal that day!

The second trip to Bangkok was mainly for Laos which we were heading later on.

From KK - KL - BKK, it took us hours to fly from one city to another. By the time we reached Bangkok, it was night time and it's time for dinner!

In this write up, I will be conclude places and such that we need to take note! It's a guide anyway. :)

- Day 1 -

1) Terminal 21

A shopping mall which having airport and the places concept. Interesting and amazed with the design! One of the recommended place to shop too!

2) Dinner at Fuji Japanese Restaurant.

It was quit late when we finished our dinner, we went back to our hotel and planned for the next day!

- Day 2 -

3) View from Amari Boulevard Hotel (Sukhumvit)

Good morning and it was the day when we could start our shopping and sight seeing!

It is a four star hotel, however, the are are quite complicated and we could see quite a number of prostitution at that area as well. The area will be a crowd during the night where many will be there, particularly the Arabs love to stay at Sukhumvit area. In fact, this area also well known for its Indian cuisine. The best is found there!

- 4) Massage -

Since it was early, three of us, dad, Mr. Hubs and me went for a foot massage behind the alley after we had a short walk. Thai always having one of the best skill in the world!!

- The Alley -

It's a night clubs area with all the tourist and well, you know. :) Morning will be a dead place to be there.

5) EM  Quatier Shopping Mall (Phrom Phong BTS Station)

Visited 3 blocks of building - Helix Quartier, Glass Quartier and Waterfall Quartier.
I do admire and amazed with the architecture in Bangkok.

- Helix Quartier -

The highlighted design of Helix Quartier are the garden inside the building, from the top to the bottom with scheduled time to water the plants. Besides, did you see the walkway that is unusual where it seems oblique. Yes, it is oblique! We can either just walk forward to go to the lower ground and vice versa.

6) Food Bazaar

We were lucky when we were able to see varieties of local eateries at the food bazaar held when we were on our way to visit Four Face Buddha for praying and Cruise Dinner later.

- Thai Pineapple -

That's a mini pineapple there! Back to Malaysia, we saw there's netizen who were selling mini pineapple and talk about price? It's EXPENSIVE! Well, when demand is high, supply will b expensive. That's the norms.

7) Four Faced Buddha

It was my second visit here. To go there for praying and wisdom protection. Hired four dancers as an offer to Buddha for blesses.

8) Chao Phraya Princess

My mom was unwell when we went for cruise dinner. Arrived at River City and waited for the night cruise. Mr. Lee suggested us for a good dinner and that were our relaxing dinner that night! Good food and music while enjoying Chao Phraya River scene.

- View from River City -

Definitely better than China cruise we went.

- The Dishes -

Part of what we had that night.

- Day 3 -

We went for local Thai bus ride to Flower Market with Mr Lee early morning at 6.00 am. Ticket price was like cents! Clean bus and that's the local Thai lifestyle.

- Flower Market -

They say that Flower Market changed a lot, less flower could be seen at public streets, the local authority has decided it for local city planning. That's really sad when we knew it. We went to the market between those building to have a look of local lifestyle.

Like always, it's the way to learn to lifestyle. What they eat, what they sell etc.

9) Flower Market

Old building can be seen clearly here. Monks can be seen early morning to accept offering from the locals.

10) Bangkok Shopping Heaven

We went for shopping spree at Platunam area and from one mall to another, walked so far and we were down with Tuk Tuk later! We moved to 11) Reno Hotel on the same day.

We went back to the hotel and went to Khao San Road as planned.

12) Khao San Road (Backpackers Street)

It's a night life area. Many tourists, especially American loves it. Music were loud, food were weird, and I saw fried SCORPIONS!! That's the first time I saw the real small scorpion prepared to be eaten. That's Thai authentic perception that we saw from TV!

13) Shosana Thai Restaurant

It was a recommended Thai Restaurant near Khao San Road. While it was raining heavily out there, we went for dinner only. And dinner was really good! I love their Mango Sticky Rice, unlike the one I had at other market. Sticky rice was smelled strong.

- Day 4 -

14) Grand Palace

I am glad we were able to visit the Grand Palace, a huge palace with own temple, school and more.

15) China Town

From one country to another, there's China Town every where. We went here for seafood dinner and it's really crowded.

 Time for New Shoe!

Accompanied me for the past years, bringing it along with me to many places :) Such a comfortable shoes that sponsored by Adidas NEO. Goodbye for now.

The above places in Bangkok are more localised, visited most of the recommended places in recent two trips concluded my trip to Bangkok. I believe there's more that we could explore especially cafes in Bangkok are recommended as well!

Well, Bangkok is a good place for shopping. :) Boy, this write up reminds me of my memory for Grand Palace. Beautiful wonders. :)

Completed Bangkok (V.2) and next! Guide to Laos - Vientiane !

Sabah : Mamutik Island

Non experience divers? Not a problem anymore!

It was a fine Sunday morning when we went to the island as planned. Even though it's raining season, the weather was good and rain poured the moment when we were back in KK, on the same day when KK was flooded after hours of heavy rain.

- Video of the day -

The truth is we were delighted to experience the trial dive and a media day trip to the new premises "Borneo Divers Dive Academy". Though it named as Academy, however, Borneo Divers Academy also incorporating fun and leisure island trip with a variety of water sports to both local and international tourists.

- STAR Marina Jetty -

After registering ourselves at Borneo Divers' reception at STAR Marina Jetty, it's time for us to depart from KK to Mamutik Island.

Mamutik Island is one of the first diving school in Sabah where diving lesson can be registered!

- Six of Us -

There were six of us went to the island and most of us knew each other, we had a lot of fun together as well!

Such a coincidence that I was watching a rescuing sea creatures clip months ago, it does made me had a thought of trying underwater diving someday, and months later? An invitation from Borneo Divers. It's really some luck I have!

- Borneo Divers Dive Academy at Mamutik Island -

Restaurants that could accommodate up to 500 diners, diving school, hostel (soon), management office and more.

- Restaurant -

There were many tourist from China and Korea when we were there, luckily they were able to queue in sequence when we were having our buffet.

- The Previous Borneo Divers School -

It's only a hut back then. Now with a proper building that is well planned.

From the information we were made known, soon the island will be having hostel facility which ca accommodate with 80 pax for overnight stay for both diving students and guests. In fact, overnight at the island were quite expensive at other islands nearby here in Sabah. In addition, Borneo Divers also accept outdoor wedding if there's guests that planning to.

- From Borneo Divers site -

Borneo Divers had put in a lot of effort to beautify and uplift Mamutik Island. I love to be at the island, but I don't really love to be dark.

- Changing Room -

We were being guided to go their changing room to choose all the necessary item before diving.

- Outdoor -

Done with selecting our preference on size of diving suit and flips.

- Briefing -

Although there will be Master Divers along with us, guiding and holding us along the way from beach to the sea, there will also a short briefing explaining a few sign language of divers and learn a few skill such as removing the water which leak into the photon etc.

All of us without diving experience were completely excited to be able to have a trial dive session. Pricing at RM280.00 (December 2017).

That's Joe, a friendly and knowledgeable Dive Master who guide me during the trial dive session.

- Testing -

I was nervous when I were at the beach trying to suit myself with the equipment and sea water. Breathing is the weird part while in fact, we need go breath normally.

- Trial Dive -

Charlotte was my dive buddy, but she was worried after diving for a while and return to the island later.

Fortunately, Joe tried his best to  comfort and convince me to dive further. Yes, I did. I did saw a few types of fish but when I tried to go further, my ears hurt. Why it hurt? It's because of the water pressure. *Sigh... No more diving further when my ears hurt. In such condition, it's because I am not used to be underwater, the symptoms is similar to air pressure during flight.

Anyway, I think we can go for a second trial on the same day as well. In fact, trial diving is an activity that we should not be missed!

Our underwater sight.

After having a short rest, we went for another activity! Kayaking on a transparent kayak!

Another photo session for three of us. :)

By the way, I have been using Viaila Cold Light Teeth Whitening Kit from KKBuy Online Store to whiten my yellowish teeth. Now my teeth is cleaner and lighten a lot! The teeth kit works in 7 days and guaranteed with good result! Moreover, its refundable if no effect after a set of treatment completed.

KK Eats : Lintas Plaza

When Traditional Cake were sprouting like mushroom here and there within Malaysia, us here in Kota Kinabalu itself having the same condition as well.

Well, they often comparing which one is nicer and every person taste buds are different and liking different bakery.

- Yuan Taste -

When I first saw the symbol, it does caught my eye and it represent "ROUND" in Chinese, pronounced as "Yuan".

I was lucky to try their cake on the same night during their opening day, our friend called us for a cuppa while bringing us the original flavour to taste it too. :) Unexpected, I love this one and planned to taste them when I had the chance.

- Take Away Packing -

Quality packing and it will not be soggy after the hot cake was placed inside the box.

- Chicken Floss -

Being one of Yuan's Best Seller!

Basically, I am not a Chicken Floss liking person, because it is too dry for my throat. For me, it is quite special whereby, seldom we could taste a cake with chicken floss and moreover, Yuan generously add on the Chicken Floss that covered the top of the cake.

Mixture of seaweeds, sesame and chicken floss. It's smells good on top of the traditional cake.

- Traditional Cake : Chicken Floss -

You thought that the chicken floss might be only spread as a topping, I kid you not! There's two layers of chicken floss inside the cake!

 - Traditional Cake : Cheese Flavour -

Salted cheesy taste, while melted when they cut the cake. A favourite by cheese lovers!

 - Traditional Cake : Original -

Although it is a plain traditional cake, but when we had it, it was fluffy and the cake still remain the same even though we placed on the kitchen nearly 24 hours. We knew that the cake was generously prepared and quality controlled.

- Traditional Cake : Chocolate -

Surprisingly I love their chocolate flavour, smelling delicious and taste yummy!

Chocolate traditional cake was moist, not dried and taste the same during my breakfast on the next morning. I was laughing when I open up the box and half of the cake was finished by my dad and sisters, guess they are liking it too!

- Traditional Cake : Chocolate flavour -

I may say that Yuan are doing well for keeping their quality even though they are packed with orders. I was lucky to see all four flavour when I was there!

Mentioning about the four flavour, four of them taste good and spongy cake they were! Yet not too sweet! *Yay!*

- Yuan Taste -

Such a friendly helpers they are!

KK Eats : Live Rabbitfish (Lai Mang) Yu Kut Teh by Alu-Alu Kitchen 游水泥鯭肉骨茶,雅露城

Kota Kinabalu Eats - Kolombong

The first experience of mine to taste Rabbitfish ("Lai Mang") with Herbs Soup "Yu Kut Teh" was during my food trail visit to Sandakan last year. In fact, us in Kota Kinabalu itself does not favour much with rabbitfish as the consumption itself are lesser here as well. No supply, therefore no demand. True or not?

Having the new menu by Alu-Alu Kitchen, Kota Kinabalu are now available with rabbitfish Yu Kut Teh and we do not have to go all the way to Sandakan to taste "LaiMang" Yu Kut Teh anymore!

Frankly speaking, we have tasted the live rabbitfish Yu Kut Teh by Alu-Alu Kitchen, which they are proudly serving farmed organic vegetables and chemical-free fishes directly from their Bayu Aquaculture fish hatchery located at Tuaran.

The rabbitfish which they are serving are kept live in glass tank, and when guests would like to have Rabbitfish Yu Kut Teh, there will always be live fishes available. Unlike some of the rabbitfish served at restaurant, a well handling will make sure no muddy taste when we consume it, proper caring, cleaning and cooking will be needed.

Align with Live Rabbitfish Yu Kut Teh, there are a few more new dishes that are quite special and nice. Fresh fish are a favour by many.

- Deep Fried Cuttlefish Balls with Mozzarella Cheese RM32.00 -

A starter for us.

- Lai Mang Yu Kut Teh with "Tong Kui" (dried roots of Angelica sinensis) Chicked Soup Based -

Personally I love the "Tong Kui" soup based, as we were being understood that there were more than 20 types of herbs in that bowl of soup. No wonder it taste savory and at the mean while, keeping ourselves warm and energized.

- Lai Mang Yu Kut Teh (Chicken soup based) with Pepper -

In addition, the flesh of rabbitfish are smooth and fine texture where one fish might not be enough for one. It's too nice to eat.

For both of the Yu Kut Teh, the price will be RM120.00 per kg and we will have to order at least 500 gram for each serving.

If we would like to taste another choices of cooking, we may request the kitchen to prepare a dish that suits you. Rabbitfish can be served barbecued.

- Braised Fish Head Grouper with Enoki Mushroom RM68.00 -

Not many restaurant that serve delicious fish head grouper, more over with freshly cut grouper by Alu-Alu Kitchen, the grouper head slices were not hard and with smooth texture for every bite that we bite. The gravy was savory and delicious, just like what I prefer.

I'm not a fish head favourable person, but the one we had that night? It was a large grouper and I didn't know it was fish head until they mentioned that it was fish head again.

- Hakka Lamb Meat with Yam (Lamb Q-Nyuk) RM45.00 -

Alu-Alu Kitchen do care about all customers requirements, especially the Muslim. Alu-Alu Kitchen is a "Serve No Pork" restaurant.

From the menu we read, Alu-Alu Kitchen always designed well-known Chinese dishes in a way that could be tasted by all, even for the Malays.

- Steamed Fish Head Grouper with Assam Curry RM68.00 -

The assam curry that made us ate extra! With such gravy, it suits the local tastebuds. As a person who love spicy food, this dish will be one of my recommendation to you as well.
