And we had our night at JingXi 靖西市, a mini province in China and being known as "Little KunMing".

Good morning to JingXi, had our simple breakfast and off we went to the next few scenic area with our tour bus.

Arrived at Ming Shi Tian Yuan 明仕田园, experiencing natural environment and bamboo rafting at the lake or stream that also know as small GuiLin 小桂林.

Here we are with images I took during sight seeing at Ming Shi Countryside. Breathtaking reflection on the lake, the mountain and the building along.

Well, I will recommend Ming Shi Countryside to all for sight seeing and experience the wide sky and bit of the culture of Guang Xixi.

That's all for today!

China Part 10 - Guang Xi Region : The Border within China and Vietnam
中国篇 10 - 广西 : 中国 越南边界
Arrived at Nanning at night and we proceed for another 3 hours drive to another attraction on the second day.

Detian Waterfall is a transnational waterfall in the Sino-Vietnamese border, ranking the largest transnational waterfall in Asia and the fourth largest transnational waterfall in the world.

From China, it was called De Tian Waterfall. From Vietnam, it was named Ban Gioc Waterfall. In China, De Tian Waterfall is known as one of the most beautiful waterfall. Well, the beautiful of it cannot be compared with Canada's Niagara Falls.

Located in Shuolong Town,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Detian Waterfall originates from the Guichun River which passes Vietnam and winds back Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. When the Guichun River arriving at the bluff in Detian Village, Daxin County, then the Detian Waterfall formed. Up on the about 200-meter wide bluff, the waterfall pours down with the drop of 70 meters. Visitors can the resonant roars kilometers away. If who visit the waterfall early in the morning, he would enjoy the rainbow when the rising sun shining on the mist upon the waterfall.

The Detian Waterfall is divided into three layers: the upper layer, the gradual slope, and the lower layer. In the upper layer, the water rushes along the almost vertical bluff, and pours down into the deep pool with silvery spray splashing upon the pool. Then the waterfall comes to the gradual slop, in which the waterfall has an opportunity to relax after the onrush before and gather momentum for the grandest lower layer. In the lower layer, the water rushes down and open a marvelous natural picture with wide water screen and surrounding green trees. In summer, the Detian waterfall has the largest water flow.

That's all for the introduction, the following are the photos taken during that visit. Great experience to feel the breezy air when we walk up to the hills, drizzling waterfall splash along the way.

- Vietnam -

From China, that's the scene we could see.

- Vietnam -

- China -

We could hire a rafting man to enjoy the scene along the river via bamboo water rafting.

- China -

De Tian Waterfall. Ain't it beautiful? The nearer we go, we could see the waterfall in a huge sight.

- Shops -

Remember, every tourist spots there would be shops. Never change.

- Shop lots -

A short walk along the shop lots and off we go to the next destination! Ready for Vietnam!

Papa Kopitiam is originated from Tawau. One of Sabah province that having delicious varieties of food everywhere.

So back to Kota Kinabalu itself, during one Sunday, we went to have a taste of this well known kopitiam located at Hilltop. Easily accessible and easily seen with their huge signboard.

- The Noodles -

I had mixed inner pork, additional with eggs, while Hubs had pork ribs noodle.

For a plate of of such portion, it was not really filling. However, the taste was generously tasted.

Talk about the pork ribs, adding rice wine increased the dull taste of pork in to something different where the local will loves it. While for my plate, it tasted okay, surely the broth was loaded.

- Inner Pork Rice Vermicelli with Egg -

We had a conversation with the lady boss, she is from Tawau. In that case, she temporary closed the actual shop in Tawau for two months just to make sure all the quality remained as we could tasted in the new branch in Kota Kinabalu.

Well, if you would love to try something original and different, do have a try there. ;)

George Town, Penang.

It was sad when I flip through my gallery, not many food exploration and even places I had visited when I was there sometime last month. I was arrived a day later than the others, and makes it there's only have 24 hours or less (minus sleep) to explore with.

Arriving a day later due to attending seminar held in KK and cannot be postponed nor replaced. Moreover, my friends were unwell because of the hot weather and cold air-conditioning since the day I arrived (you will die laughing if you knew why).

- Airbnb -

It was my first stay via airbnb, it was interesting and gosh, I love the condominium unit that we stayed, gorgeous Penang bay view from our eyes, feeling so wide from day to night, I couldn't take my eye away from it. :) The day view and the night skyline view.

鳗鱼肉及肉碎片。 It was not an ordinary bowl of kuey teow soup, it was a bowl of kuey teow soup with homemade eel balls with minced meat slices on top of the broth that non stop boiling as seen outside the shop.

Non halal restaurant from what we could taste. "Ye Jiao Guo Tiao Tang" is a favorable coffee shop by Penang Minister, Mr. Lim Guan Ying. We have yet to meet him in real person.

- 椰脚粿条汤 @ Carnavon Street -

I love that savory taste of their bowl of soup, hardly to taste such now a days. Eel balls were soft, unlike fish balls which is springy (QQ).

- Penang Street/ Wall Art -

When time goes by, there are a lot of new wall art attached to Penang. The above, I'm guessing an art piece made of bronze, wire with a historical story of the past in Penang, totally love the concept and meaningful art piece.

- Penang Street/ Wall Art -

- Listed building -

Aged building always caught my eye. So many tourists in Penang when we were there, especially from China, loud and noisy.

- Painting artist -

Random snap which we were able to walk passes them, beautiful lively art they have painted passionately.

- Penang Street/ Wall Art -

- Penang Street/ Wall Art -

Among the first few wall art by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic. There were so many wall art that we saw in George Town and not all that we captured, too many tourists and moreover, good memories well kept in heart. :)

- Penang Street/ Wall Art -

Kung Fu! That's Bruce Lee along the alley. We were guided by a kind elderly that pointing to us there.

- Penang Street/ Wall Art -

Perhaps it was the first friends trip for me for the past living years, exclude university and college away from home.

- We've been "lucky" -

Couldn't agree more on the efficiency of Penang. Two days strikes our rent car was summoned, what a day. And guess what? The men pushed the car because it was out of fuel and luckily passed a short distance with the nearest petrol station. (lol) We could repeatedly talk about our friends story for years.

The water village existed for over a century. Each bridge is named after a Chinese clan, the most tourist friendly jetty is Chew Jetty, businesses and houses can be seen at once. And so we were visiting Chew Jetty while having our late lunch before going back to our condominium for rest.

Told you that we couldn't keep away our eyes from such scenery. Totally love it. :) Especially captured it with Huawei P9!

Somehow, I believe that everyone have their romantic side. A scenery like this would melt me, especially watching it with someone special.

Jack & Knife? JacKnife? There's a few name surrounded in the internet for this particular restaurant. It's JacKnife Bar & Grill to be exact.

Located at one of the upcoming location that occupied with various good restaurants and cafes.

It was my pre birthday dinner with hubby and it was delicious. I'm totally going back for more. The pork belly was surprisingly good, despite of the oil layer. (lol) Tender meat, just my oh my.

- Green Salad -

- Mixed Grill -

Chicken thighs, lamb chop and pork belly for the mixed grill.

- Mushroom Soup -

Tasted sweet and creamy. First sip surprised me, that it was different from other mushroom soup I had before. I assume they have added fresh grey mushroom, pre cook is a norm, while freshly chop grey mushroom was added before serving to customers. :)

- Cabonara spaghetti with pork -

Texture of spaghetti was just nice. Cabonara was not overdone, not overloaded with cream based, fragrance of the mushroom was tasted while munching it. Satisfying Cabonara which I haven't taste a good one for the past year.

Tawau Food Trail
Serve No Pork

Let's us start our journey with the first eat out in Tawau food trail. We were there for a full moon dinner the day we arrived and took ourselves for a two days one night trip.

The first meal after we landed Tawau was the local well known Indonesian Chinese's Soto. Soto is a traditional Indonesia soup mainly composed of broth, meat and vegetables. While in Sandakan, Soto was also written as "COTO", which I wondered for a while whether it's the same or otherwise at first though. But hey, its actually the same!

- Kedai Kopi Yuan Yuan 源源茶餐室 -

Finally we were there and we definitely waited for quite a while. Worth to wait you see.

- Soto -

There were prawn balls, fish fillet, eggs, wantan and meat (Chicken or beef), depends on own preference of what we like.

It was my first to have seafood in my bowl of soto, different from we used to have in Kota Kinabalu which is either beef or chicken.

- Soto -

The broth certainly well tasted, pepper were added to spice up the taste. Love the taste and no wonder they were crowded.

- Soto with Mixed Ingredients  -

Big bowl and worth for every bite. You know what? Indonesian cook the best soto and we were lucky to have Brother in law whow brought us there.

Everyone knew about "Lego", where it was one of our childhood toys back then. Imagination that leads to amazing creation!

It was a random decision that I flew to Johor for the first time, planned myself a day trip to Legoland Malaysia, and you know what? The security is from Sabah and he was excited when he knew I am from Sabah too. :)

Many that laugh when I decided to visit Legoland the other day. Well, visiting Legoland is one of the must do when we visit Johor.

- Legoland Malaysia -

There were thousand of interesting buildings and items that made of Lego bricks. Mentioning about "interesting", it's a subjective words tho. :) Some may said Legoland was bored, but it was good for me, I love toys that play with a bit of mind usage.

- BIG Shop -

There were a few Lego outlets spotted around.

Cut the story short, I have many images that we could view in this post. Do enjoy every bits like I did. From my eye, I see them.

- Legoland Hotel -

A friend of mind told me that I suppose to rent a room there, where interesting theme hotel it is.

Seeing all of the lively Lego bricks, I felt amazing that how did they did that? It looks definitely similar to what we see on screen.

- Map -

Without the map, I might lost. (lol)

- Miniland -

Miniland definitely my favourite in Legoland Malaysia. It's like seeing the world all in mini sizes with iconic landmarks. Although the weather was hot and humid, luckily I'm not fainted when I walk around.

Another customised dinner party for the office, this time with the mission to plan for the 10th Anniversary a day to be remember, at least. Its' ain't easy as previous dinner session which is easier to handle.

In the midst of planning until finalizing and till the day of the event, it wasn't easy to be an event organizer and as the amateur emcee on the actual night. I always believe working in a group and gathering ideas bits by bits.

Some may wonder why do I write an update on the event I organized. First, I am not an event organizer nor running a event company. To customise an event for 60 person in the afternoon until after dawn, you will be wondering how do that person could make it. Finally done and everyone happy with the party. Non the less, Tatiana from #LMKK did a good job as well by assisting on my case. :)

- Evening Scene -

It was an hour before the arrival of guests and table settings and all were surprised by Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu team and even surprised by my guests. Yes, I had my office event this year at Azure Pool Bar and Cafe, Le Meridien KK, a dinner beside the pool with wine and alcohol.

The earliest colleagues were afraid to sit down before the event started, should I say they were afraid to ruin the table and waited for the party to start?

I told Hubs that I would love to have our anniversary at a place like this in town. With sunset and breezy place. Hopefully LMKK will consider to add on with fans to the surrounding, the environment was great that night, however it was warm and having whiskey and wine, we were wet. (hahaha)

Vietnam : Part 1 @ Ha Long Bay
Guide to Vietnam - Ha Long Bay and Hanoi 5 Days 4 Nights

Ha Long Bay, located in the Gulf of Tonkin, within Quang Ninh Province, in the northeast of Vietnam, is 165 km from the capital of Ha Noi. The bay is famous for its scenic rock formations. In fact, Ha Long Bay was well described in Wiki Travel. There are more than 1,600 limestone that arises from the sea and each island are covered with massive trees.

Can you imagine how far it was for our journey to travel from China, passes through the Friendly Gate between China-Vietnam and to reach Ha Long Bay? It was almost the whole morning and afternoon and we reached our hotel in the evening. Slightly I still remember the beautiful scenic of Vietnam's agriculture and it was magnificent in a sense.

- World Heritage Site -

Ha Long Bay being one of the world heritage site listed in UNESCO. At the first sight, it does amaze us with those mountains from the sea. Some of the larger islands are developed to be a tourist spot with various caves visiting for tourist/ travelers like us.

- Vietnamese Wedding favours -

Did I told you about the friendly tourist guide that we had during our trip? He told us a lot of Vietnamese stories and introduced us with many local fruits and local delicacies. We were glad to know him. :)

- Vietnamese Coffee -

Perhaps we all knew it is Vietnamese Coffee when we saw the little pot to drip the black coffee. It's a lifestyle of theirs.

- One of the island -

Embarked at one of the island - Tian Gong Cave for cave visiting, where mother nature created imaginary scene for our eye to imagine.

- Tian Gong Cave -

The staircases. Most of the lifestyle was in a mini figured way. The table seats in cafes and others.

- Fishery Area -

Embarked at the fishery area and keep this in mind, we must NOT simply point at those large fishes, or else we will end up paying for it! It's a kind of tactic to indirectly make visitors to pay for it. The price? PRICEY!

- The tycoons -

Just kidding! It was my mom and friends that went down earlier to have a look together with our tourist guide.

- The Sea Seller -

Each visitors are their potential customers, and each visitors are potentially being pick pocket by some sellers, there's experience that some of the came nearer to the windows just to try their luck to lift whatever worth.

- Lunch -

Our lunch by the sea. The package we had were inclusive of a meal and these were part of it.

- The ferry -

It was another ferry and we were in the same type of ferry during our afternoon trip.

- The Heaven Island 海上石林天堂岛  -

- The Heaven Island 海上石林天堂岛  -

Went for hiking just to see the view of Ha Long Bay. It was the last stop before we depart at the jetty and back to the land.

I almost refuse to walk on those staircases, but in the end, tried my best. Four of us, two uncles and my younger sister walk up to see the beautiful view.

- The Heaven Island 海上石林天堂岛  -

- Vietnamese Ice Cream -

Unlike our Malaysian Ice Cream which I preferred more, there were one funny taste with Vietnamese Ice Cream which I'm not sure why.

Vietnamese are hardworking people, they will find a way to earn for their living. Non the less, you will be surprised they knew how to speak Korean, Japanese and even Chinese languages.

That's all for the details of Ha Long Bay. :)

Believe that every home will have the special dishes. At my home, my mom could prepare delicious Chinese dishes for the festive day.

Lunar New Year is an important festive season for the Chinese. As I seen in my neighborhood and business outlets,  it was nice seeing red couplets affixed and red lanterns being hang up! In Chinese tradition, we will be giving gifts to our friends and relatives. This year, my mother gave us a can of Australian abalone in addition to other items, with it I shall prepare abalone dish with it. Referred to my mom for the recipe and slightly remember the process of stewing the mushrooms too.

The following is the steps to prepare Stew Mushroom with Abalone.

- Stew Mushroom with Abalone 冬菇焖鲍鱼 -

- 材料 Materials -

A.冬菇 :
1. 浸开冬菇,去蒂,洗净, 采用腌制材料I(如果想要更入味的话, 早一两天腌制吧!)。

2. 【选择】

Ingredients: Mushrooms and AbaloneDecoration: broccoli (as preference)Seasoning:Material I - Abalone sauce (widely sold at supermarket), oyster sauce, wine (Shaoxing wine, etc.), sugar & pepperOthers - Chicken Soup & Dried Scallops (option)

Duration: One hour and fifteen minutes

Steps

A. Mushrooms:1. Wash and soak mushrooms, remove the stalks. Adding Seasoning Material I into soaked mushroom and leave for half a day or leave it for 1 or two days inside the fridge before cooking.2. Heat the frying pan and add some oil. Add in seasoned mushrooms, soaked scallops (optional) and suitable amount of chicken soup (I prepared a large bowl of soup in case I needed it while in stewing process.
3. It takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour. Once the mushrooms are soften and easily cut or can be poke through with chopstick, it's DONE.4. Place the mushrooms on the plate and set aside.B. Abalone:1. Open the cans and cut the abalones in to slices.2. Optionsi. Heat the stewed mushroom gravy, add in abalone slices and quickly stir fry the abalone. OR

Ha Long, Vietnam - Part 2

Vietnamese water puppet has been a unique puppet show  well known by the world. It was also recommended that there is one in Hanoi which is well known and recommended via internet.

Non the less, there are not many activities that we could do in Ha Long, therefore, our tour included a water puppet show and cultural show at the local well known Royal Amusement Park. Indeed it was packed with tourists too. There is a Casino in Royal Amusement Park and before the show started, few of us went to have a short gamble and it was my first to gamble in a Casino, normally just watching friends to play back in the University in Liverpool.

- Water Puppet Show -

I always tell myself that every country has their own culture and believe, we should respect them. Well, not many people that found water puppet show interesting and from such I've seen on that night, the music, the puppets, the musician, it's all teamwork. Never easy to deal with and to be recognise by the world.

Immediate after the puppet show, we went to another venue by walking distance to watch the Vietnamese cultural show.

Frankly, they have similar culture attires like us and even the dances!

One of them will be Bamboo dances, where in Sabah, Bamboo dances is a traditional dances by the Murut here. Do I ever mentioned that we could see similar traditional wear in China as well?!

Perhaps, we might see similarity again in another Asia country too. :)

- Cultural Dances -

I always love culture and it has been the way to understand more about a country. :)

We heard about the delicious taste and the portion that their bean curd which is loaded with minced meat.

From one stall for take away only, now has moved to a restaurant which offers us sit in or take away.

- Long Chuan Tofu -

Best seller in the house!

I believe that when there's pork, certainly that restaurant would be crowded.

- Yong Chap -

Besides tofu, they offered other stuffed vegetable like bittergourd and brinjal as well. Varieties to be selected by customers from day till evening.

- In the frying pan -

Fry to harden the tofu before inserting to another pan for sauce.

- The restaurant -

We did not sit it to dine, we did was to take away and meeting other relatives while having one or two with the family.

- Tawau view -

We saw the fog surrounding those hill further away and such a quiet town to live. :)

Morning is for breakfast! Waking up around 7.00am and went to the local market before heading for breakfast.

There's a quote that expresses the locals there.
"It's all about the relationship between one and another in Tawau."

Tawau is a small town and guess what? Everyone knew each other there!

- Braised Grouper -

It was great to taste the best Wa Tan Ho 滑蛋河 in Tawau with Grouper 龙趸. Grouper is a type of large sized fish, a huge size of 石斑.

Grouper may cost a bit and Hong Hong Coffee Shop only operates when they caught grouper.

- Noodle soup -

- Wa Tan Ho -

Fried Ho Fun with runny eggs. I love having Wa Tan Ho and it is one of the fattest Chinese meal!

Fresh fish is always the best in Sabah and the local always make sure their seafood is fresh! Better still after catching freshly from the sea.

The locals always know where's the best food would be, the locals knows well!

- Kedai Kopi Chui Ting 翠亭茶室 -

Located at one remote area in Tawau, surprisingly there is an old coffee shop that still having the best Hokkien Mee in Town and additional with its recommended Braised Fish! Tasty and tasted authentically.

- The Vintage -

By looking at the walls of posters and menu, the brands was no more existing and even changed their designs and guess, it was from the 80's? or 70's, perhaps?

- Sambal -

Homemade sauces and best with anything served.

- Hokkien Mee -

The noodle fragrant, the pork lart. Oh gosh.

I found out that we can add on with pork inner upon required too, that's something new to me from KK. Thought that there's only pork meat, pork lart, pork oil and fat noodle with special sauces to cook it!

- Hokkien Mee -

- Braised Fish -

Different type of cooking and taste as compared with the one we had at Kedai Kopi Hong Hong, which we were having tasted even better, although the slices of fish might be smaller here. The gravy was wondering!

I would recommend the Hokkien Mee here and ofcourse the Braised Fish. :) One tasty food find out!

Tawau : The Local Markets/ Pasar - Tanjung Market, Sunday Market & Sin On Market

Tawau Lifestyle Discovery
The Market/ "Pasar"/ 巴刹
- Tanjung Market (The largest in Sabah), Town Central
- Sunday Market at Takada (Pasar Pagi Takada), Jalan Kuhara and Jalan Apas
- Sin On Market, Jalan Sin On

"If you want to get in depth with the culture or the lifestyle of the locals, do visit their local market."

Mama Vun always remind us the same and same goes to Mr. Travel Lee, a friend of ours who love to see the authentic/ original of a country, also invited us to go for early market sight seeing every time we go travel with him.

Indeed, some scenes that we can't see after 8.00 or 9.00 am. Just like the monk offerings that we experienced during our trip in Laos or the beautiful flower market at Bangkok, where we also have the chance to hop in to the classic bus which only cost us RM0.30.

In Tawau, there are a few recommended local fresh/vegetables market which also the local knew where to go for "marketing" for the Chinese and Malay etc. Not to say there's discrimination, it's because of the area we go to.

Pasar Tani Takada/ Sunday Market :

Tawau Sunday market, also called Pasar Tani Takada and even named at "Tamu". It held weekly on Sunday morning and smaller than our Sunday market in Kota Kinabalu. A mixture of wet market and night market, where we could see many of the locals and even Indonesian, our neighbour are here too.

It does surprises me where the local sellers selling thousands of the fresh vegetables from the cultivation. Amazing and this is a scene that not many could be seen now a days, especially in Kota Kinabalu itself. We need to travel to the nearest one and it takes about 45 minutes to reach, say Tamaparuli and Tuaran.

Sin On Market :

Sin On Market is more like a market to the local Chinese and nearer to housing area. Freshly picked vegetables from their farm. :) We could see freshly homemade soy bean desserts too.

Tanjung Market :

Tanjung Market known as the largest market in Sabah.

Wet market, dried market, food stalls are well managed and well divided in Tanjung Market. We could search for salted seafood which are one of the recommended items to bring home.

Food court which placed at the highest floor and it is definitely clean and such a crowded place for the local here.

The food stalls area with take away deli are placed towards the last exit which surprised me, it was colourful and so many delicious local delicacies which we can buy! I saw there's plenty of NASI KUNING and it was actually one of the must eat food in Tawau, which originated from Indonesia. Can't deny Tawau's culture is blended with hint of Indonesian.

That's all for today! :)

- Olive Bistro -

One of the oldest bistro in Tawau. I like the cozy design of the bistro where they did us upcycle concept as well for the wine bottles settings. One side of the corner with wall, there were graffiti art, bit of hint from western country.

- Tiramisu -

Tiramisu taste nice with hint of alcohol and all Tiramisu should have it! :) The authentic taste you know right?

- Cappuccino -

Skilled barista. :) Glad that Tawau having nice cafe for us to indulge.

My oh my...

It was a big hoo haa when this Hong Kong theme was open weeks ago. I have made a visit to this air-cond coffee shop and it was quite disappointing.

Nothing to say much and it's just an amateur Hong Kong style coffee shop.

By seeing all the photos. You know. :)

So much to be improved.
