Sandakan Eats : "Cow Dung" Ice Cream & Desserts by 7-Heaven, Mile 4

Sandakan, Sabah. 沙巴, 山打根。

Immediate after our dinner at Four Points, we went to the well known 7-Heaven Dessert Parlor for desserts. And guess what? :) I met few of my KK friends who also went to Sandakan for short trip. That's how we laugh when we met each other!

- 7-Heaven -

Located at Mile 4 of Sandakan, whereby the area is one of the favourite spot of the locals, especially the Chinese. And just to let you know, few good cafes and restaurant are there!

- Crepe and Ice Cream -

The ice cream we choose was Green Tea. About the taste, I think the taste of green tea is quite light, unlike the one we had from Crowd Nine which green tea tasted generously.

- Waffle Ice Cream -

Basically, the flavour of the ice cream is chosen by the customer, not fixed. ;)

- Mango Yogurt Ice Cream -

I named it the "Cow Dung" Ice Cream. It's a must to have this if you happen to visit Sandakan. We heard so much about 7-Heaven and saw the above ice cream for quite sometime, thought that it's an ordinary ice cream flavour. Now that I knew.

Its a healthy ice cream for sure.

- The Station -

Crowded place for ice cream. Heard that the restaurant next door - 5 Fingers is also owned by the same owner and recommended as well, we shall try it during our next visit then.

Mile 4

Sandakan, Sabah 沙巴, 山打根。

Good morning, Sandakan! It was our second breakfast after a light breakfast at Four Point Sandakan. And there we were stepping in to the Central Market of Sandakan. :)

Do you know that us from Kota Kinabalu are hardly seen having breakfast at our KK City market, only elder and foodies knew that we could find authentic taste of those days!

- Sandakan Central Market -

- Inside of the Central Market -

Vegetables market and meat market are located at the ground floor, while seafood wet market is located at the other end apart from the building where we went. First floor is local malay food and some groceries while second floor is CHINESE FOOD! Where there's Chinese, there's pork. It's just norms.

- Empty and Occupied Stall -

Guess some of the stalls has moved to a better spot at other places.

- The Original Homemade Kueh Teow with Deep-Fried Pork (Since 1940) -

The main purpose to visit Sandakan Central Market, deep fried pork in Sandakan is a must try! Indeed taste quite different in term of the taste and texture. I like to well marinated fried-pork. As for the noodle, we ordered the wrong one as homemade Kueh Teow is the highlight of them too. *tsk tsk*

- Deep Fried-Pork -

- Kon Lou Noodle with Deep Fried Pork -

Like what we sees here, something original to have here.

- A Walk at Town area -

It was still early and we went for a walk at the town area, very vintage look of buildings around town. And that's how Hong Kong looks like in the olden days.

Sandakan. It is recognised at small Hong Kong by us Sabahan. Fluent Cantonese by the locals there.

Next - Third breakfast!

Sandakan Central Market

Sandakan, Sabah. 沙巴, 山打根。

If you read our previous foodie find out in Sandakan, this post will be the third breakfast we had on the second day. Luckily pastries were in small portion and sharing between two.

- Pastries -

Gold Crown pastries were selling like hot cakes and there were so many people went there for take away before heading any places. Such an eye opener to see such in Sandakan town. Hot pastries simply is the magic to delicious breakfast and tea time.

- Salted Egg Pastry, Egg Tart and Chicken Cookie 咸蛋酥, 蛋挞 & 鸡仔饼 -

- Salted Egg Pastry 咸蛋酥 -

So good! Good food don't have to describe much especially hot pastries!

- The Menu -

- Century Egg Pastry 皮蛋酥 -

Century Egg pastry was my first trial at Sandakan. It was extraordinary and I didn't felt uneasy after having it. :) The ginger in it was well blended together.

- Kedai Kopi Gold Crown -

Returning to the coffee shop will be a must in future. Totally love the old coffee shop. It's a gem.

Location :
Tanah Merah.
The coffee shop can easily seen from the road side!

Sandakan Eat : Pork Dim Sum at Sandakan Hotel 【山打根吃】 山打根酒店 - 点心记

Sandakan, Sabah. 沙巴, 山打根。

It is a norms that majority of the hotels now a days are serving halal/ serve no pork. Back to Sandakan foodie findout and it was also the fourth breakfast we had that morning, after pastries at Gold Crown. Oh gosh! Second day in Sandakan was scary and high cholesterol day, I was dizzy during night. *faint*

There we went and had breakfast with Mr. Hubs' relative at Palm Garden, Sandakan Hotel. One of the two or the only one hotel that serve pork Dim Sum. The restaurant was way crowded and the service unexpectedly very slow and they need to keep up with the crowd.

- Dim Sums -

Who doesn't love Dim Sum? We could see when there's Dim Sum in local shop areas, there will be crowd!

About the taste, portion is big or normal. There's a few tray that we never tasted before in KK. :)

- Hotel Sandakan -

One of the recommended one in Sandakan. If you have the time, just be there and wait! haha! Good food are meant to wait. To avoid crowds, you might opt to be there during non peak season.

Hotel Sandakan, Town area.

Sandakan, Sabah. 沙巴, 山打根。

St. Michael's and All Angels Church was listed as one of the historical trail to be visited when visitors came to Northen Borneo - Sandakan (Sandakan Historical Trail). It is one of the oldest building in Sandakan and non the less, it was the first concrete building back in those days.

" Designed by New Zealander Mr. B.W. Mountfort, the building was first constructed with belian (ironwood) timber, followed by brick and finally stone, which is said to have from the nearby Buli Sim Sim, while the white stones that adorn the windows and doors are from Hong Kong.

The Church avoided major damage during World War II in the 1940s and remains one of the very few stone buildings in the whole of Sabah. The beautiful stained glass windows in the church were donated by Australians to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. " - Sabah Tourism

- St Michael's & All Angels Church -

The main entrance.

Thought that the church would be located some where crowded and easily accessible by public. Yes, it is accessible by public, however public transport might be slightly hard to get nor going there.

- Peeking the interior -

We were unlucky that the church was closed and we only could peek from the window. I always admire the interior of old churches, it was amazingly beautiful with the colourful art on the windows.

- Stones -

It was stated with years to open the stones.

-The Bell -

- Monument -

In remembrance.

- The side door -

- The main entrance -

An interesting fact that we had during our visiting to the church. A grumpy old man at the church was scolding visitors and we were one of them too. We didn't know that it was wrong to park as the way we were that fine day.

As for us, how could we know that we suppose not to park to wrong side and as it was also the first time we were there. *shake head* He does grumpy.

Location :
main town.
Easily reacheable by using WAZE. We used a lot of WAZE when we were traveling, we won't get lost!

They say it is the best Bak Kut Teh in Sandakan town. There were friends who like the another one which Nam Choi BKT 南财肉骨茶 and in fact, Nam Choi BKT located at the corner end of Good Taste BKT (same row).

The high lights of Good Taste BKT is their seafood BKT while Nam Choi BKT is their PORK BKT.

- Media highlights -

It was half way lucky that we were only able to taste Good Taste BKT seafood version, while Nam Choi BKT was close on Monday. :(

- Our selection -

We suppose to try their LaiMang (a type of fish) BKT which was famous and didn't get to try it because of the staff that was NOT HELPFUL while she was taking our order. NO RECOMMENDATION etc. HOW WE KNOW WHAT'S THE BEST SELLER? Every where just good food in Sandakan. *Shake Head*

- SEAFOOD BAK KUT TEH -

We had prawn balls, meatballs, fish meat and prawns. In fact, we prefer the original pork Bak Kut Teh that we had normally, as for seafood BKT, the soup base just taste PEPPER, GINGER and relevant spices. Not my kind of selection. :) I love soup and I am very particular with it. ;)

That's all! POKEMON GO fever in town! ;) Be alert!

Location :
Nam Tung street (use Waze to search for the spot, it's that easy)

The fever of desserts will not end by only coffee houses and cake houses. In Kota Kinabalu, Ice Cream also will be another bonding place with friends and family.

Do you notice about the latest game of Pokemon Go, I did play and it was fun at the first few days. (haha :D) Well, every where I go, there's people playing it. Same goes to the day when we visited Scoopee since we were there collecting some PokeBalls around Lintas area.

- Ice Cream with Honey Comb -

The following will be the video of the nitrogen gas ice cream. I'm guessing the nitrogen was not used to make the ice cream, the gas appeared from the cup below the smaller one with ice cream.

- Ice Cream with Honey Comb -

- Ice Blended Coffee Latte -

I love both of the ice cream and the coffee. As a preference, the ice cream will be a must try, although it is slightly expensive that the usual.

About the environment, it was superb! We totally love the cozy wood design with decorations in it.

It was a random thought before heading to Equator Coffee. :) Vincent, the owner of Equator Coffee is a blogger who tagged me at my Twitter account months before and once invited me to drop by his cafe if I happen to visit Sandakan.

3D Eyebrow Embroidery in KKCity - Eyebrow Changes Our Entire Face (+VLOG)

Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. 沙巴, 亚庇。

It was my first time having "tattoo". I heard so much about 3D Embroidery whereby how amazing and natural it would be. Indeed, the result was good and it seems so much natural than the classic method of tattooing our eyebrow.

Totally love the result!

- One side of the face -

I have noticed that my face feature looks sharper now, especially on the nose. A good eyebrow, does change a person looks! Surprised with the effect.

Here are some of the short clips I took during my eyebrow transformation. It's painless and I'm recording with my eyes widely opened.

Shin Yi, my make up artist patiently designed the perfect eyebrow as I wanted to have the famous Korean eyebrow design which I'm suitable with. Looks younger and lovely.

3D Eyebrow Embroidery is a type of semi permanent tattoo which can last for almost 2 years and this also depends on the product that our artist uses.

- Numbing Skin -

Numbing cream to be applied before starting with the embroidery process. It takes about 15 minutes or longer. As for myself, I felt minimal pain and just itchy on my eyebrow while in the process of embroidering.

- The Needle -

New needle for every customer that go for 3D Eyebrow Embroidery. It's a must and for hygiene purposes as well.

- The Embroidery Essentials -

- The Colour -

Once the embroidering with needles is done, the colours that's make us looks like "Angry Bird" will be the final process. Rested for 15 minutes and clear it off. The next would be going out for a drink or two! (lol)

- Korean Eyebrow Design -

The final product of 3D Eyebrow Embroidery. My eyebrow looks thicker now as compared with before. It does look natural and made me looks lively and prettier.

- Before (Left) and After (Right) -

A before and after will differentiate our looks. A fuller eyebrow can be seen and I can freshen myself within minutes every morning since I had they new eyebrow. Perfect for those who does not make up like me! (Except for that lipstick which is my daily essential)

- Touch Up Session -

I went for my touch up session which is inclusive in the package and touch up means that the perfect for that will accompany us for the next two years. Final.

- The Barbershop, Tattoo Parlour and Make Up by Shin Yi -

All under one roof. Located at 88 Marketplace, Kepayan area. Noticeable with the vintage design entrance.

Friends often ask where did I do my eyebrow and my 3D Eyebrow Embroidery was by Shin Yi from Make Up by Shin Yi. Soft spoken and delicate person to her customers. :)

Located opposite of ETH, we walked to AKH. Despite it was after 5pm and visiting hour was closed.

AKH is listed as one of the historical trail of Sandakan, very respectful person whom in the past and the design was localized with hint of English.

Added one more tick to our must visit in Sandakan. ;)

An advise to all of us, Waze is a good application, it assist us to the destination!

They always said that there's always a space for desserts in female theory. Well, we did go for another round of desserts on the second day of our Sandakan trip.

Immediate after our dinner at one of the famous Chinese restaurant which photos were quite limited and not really looking good, I just don't want to write a post with the photos. :(

- Crowd 99 -

It was totally crowded during the night. Crowded with younger generation together with friends and family. Even the eldery go there for entertainment.

- Matcha Ice Cream -

Had one of the best ice cream in Sandakan. Crowd 99's ice cream will be one of the main highlights from me! Matcha ice cream with generous taste of green tea and creamy. :)

- Coffee -

With one of the leading Italian coffee brand - illy. I simply love illy coffee whereby it was the first brand (besides Nescafe) that I was introduced after having coffee since such a young age.

- Mushroom Soup -

There's always space to improve. I love mushroom soup and as what I had on the last day before flight back to Kota Kinabalu, we went there for the second Crowd 99. Lunch with our relative and we had western meals.

Back to the main matter, Mushroom soup need to be improved as the soup was watery and milky. Not the way that most of us would prefer. Well, blending those mushroom and add on with chopped onions, garlic and some magical ingredients, the bowl of mushroom would be everyone preference!

Hopefully it will be improved. :)

It's because of interest and those pretty colours of handmade soaps by others:)

Took a 2 days basic course in KK and created something different. Basically playing with natural colours, herbs, flowers and little bit of dreamy imagination.

- Unicorn Poo -

I have been wondering how to make soap in those round shape and finally sort it out and here I am with my soap!

- Protection and Hygiene -

Always protect your eye. I am a person who always have sensitive eye around and to prevent from things that make my eye itchy, safety glasses is a must!

- Design for Soap -

It's easier to design one when it is hard trace.

I made this on Saturday and it smells really good!

Lavender Rose Tea Soap

- Curing Time -

It takes one month to air dry the soap, so it must be very patient to be one soaper.

- Stamping -

Bought sets of stamp and it revived the dull colour of handmade soaps! How lovely. :)

- Sabah Stamp -

It belongs to my teacher and I'm thinking of getting one for myself. I love Sabah. :)

- Coffee Scrub -

Fragrance free and it is one of my favourite soap! Exfoliate dead skin.

- Occupied rest day -

Soaps are made of oil and different oil will benefits us differently. 100% Natural Soap indeed.

- Instagram : @bellsbubbleskk -

Friends and family suggested to sell some soaps since it is a good form of handmade that are good for skin and relieves those who suffer from itchiness, dryness and skin conditions such as excema, psoriasis and acne.

My online store that I am recently busy for months are KKBuy Online Store (Facebook) and Bells Bubbles (Instagram). Do have a look. :)

There are so many inside my brain with new interest of mind. :) Totally love the result and feeling accomplished with those excitement after 24 hours of molding soap.

Well, going to try breast milk soap if anyone willing to offer. :)

We made it!

Check out from Four Point Sheraton Sandakan and immediately we went to Sim Sim. Heard about the their seafood and guess what? Way packed than you imagine.

- 7th Bridge -

We walk through 7th Bridge and the seafood restaurant we mentioned is located nearer to the 8th Bridge.

- Sim Sim Water Village -

I believe that there are still people staying in the houses and the view just inspiring. Very local type of Hong Kong scene.

Did I ever mentioned that Sandakan was also known as "Little Hong Kong"? The elder generation were came from Hong Kong back then, even the Cantonese dialect is well spoken until today.

- Sim Sim Seafood Restaurant -

We were there and waited for almost an hour with two glasses of hot beverages. About our breakfast, Gosh! We didn't even manage to have them despite of the time we are rushing for our flight soon.

Say bye to Century Egg Dumplings and Spring Noodle. :(

- Sim Sim Water Village -

Simply love Sabah. :) Good to know and exploring Sandakan lifestyle.

Packed with people and luckily our friends from KK were there too, therefore, its the fastest way to have seats and food!

Different soup base as compared from KK, having Ham Choi soup base, Tomato based, Curry based, Pepper based and more.

- Tomato based Sang Nyuk Mian -

Its a norms that Chinese loves pork (lol), when there's pork, that shop would have crowded with lots of people!

- Ham Choi based -

Interesting local food that many would like to try perhaps. As for me, the soup tasted light which I had. I love savory food taste that's why, different people having different favour.

Both both me and Mr. Hubs, Moon 'n' Star might not the right place for us. :)

True that there's a few coffee shop do selling the tarts, but having one in Sandakan would complete our food trails and exploration in Sandakan. Did I told you that I will be going Sandakan again? and it's in December, another round of compressed exploration perhaps.

- Classic Pastries -

By using Waze, we did pass by Wing Hup Lee and we wanted to look for another shop, which turn out to be abolished. Our relative brought us to Wing Hup Lee before our departure, and gosh, bringing back pastries would be fragile.

Sabah : Yearly Grand Market of Kota Belud (KB Tamu Besar)

Kota Belud, Sabah 沙巴, 哥打毛律

It was my first visit to Tamu Besar of Kota Belud. My dad mentioned about it sometime last month, checked on Sabah calendar and it happens to be on 22nd and 23rd October this year.

A brief understanding on Kota Belud (KB) - Kota Belud is a town located in the West Coast Division of the state of Sabah. It is located roughly at the midpoint of the federal highway connecting the state capital of Kota Kinabalu and Kudat, near to the northern tip of Sabah.

The town is considered the unofficial capital and gateway to the heartland of the Bajau people. It is also noted for its open air market, or tamu, which is held every Sunday. Once a year, the tamu is held on a much larger scale. During this time, it is known as the Tamu Besar or Grand Market.

- Horse Riding -

Ever heard from Cowboy of the East? Cowboy of the East also known as the Bajau. The largest tribe could be found in KB.

During Tamu Besar, the Horsemen will decorate their horses and bring them to competition. Well, it was sad to say that I didn't stay longer and the said event will be later in the afternoon.

- Snap -

The horse in the above image was for photography purpose only. The authentic Bajau horsemen will decorate their horse even eye catchy with bright colour, same to the horsemen.

More photos from 2012 by Eddy to view here.

- One of the iconic item -

When we see this, it means that its the beginning of Tamu Besar!

- Basket weaving -

- The fabric -

A traditional pattern fabric which represent the Bajau. Normally will folded into a headgear for the men.

- Kuihs -

The local delicacies. It is hardly to see so many local cakes at one time! Penjaram, "The Pipe", Malay donuts and etc.

- Traditional attires -

We do noticed that the native here are normally wear traditional clothes in black.

- Beads and accessories -

Handmade items can't be avoided from beads. Different designs carries different meanings too.

-Traditional snacks/ tobacco -

Saw the old man, old lady munching the red coloured snacks one side in their mouth? That's the purpose of the brown dried tobacco and the white consumable chalk.

While the yellowish loaf item was the real beeswax for our lip! That's my first seeing such traditional nature goodness.

- Local delicacies -

- Introducing local delicacies -

-Traditional food cover and local delicacies -

- The Chinese -

Mainly Hakka in Kota Belud. We could see the diverse culture at one market in Sabah, which is a very good norms to adopt. Loving our land, culture and remaining the culture should be educated from young.

- Necklaces and head accessories -

I bought one head accessories for keeping, loving it and not frequently found now a days. Luck perhaps? Moreover, there's limited size!

- Cheapest Snack -

Bought few Apam Balik with cheap price! RM0.50 each was surprising! And you know what? One of my reader told me that the old man selling his snack with the same price for ages.

- Vegetables -

The best thing to do at Tamu is buying the local vegetables with cheap prices and its fresh. 😊

That's all for our yearly Tamu Besar visiting. Good experience for the first time.

Set your plan to visit our KB Tamu Besar next year if you happen to come Sabah next year. 😉

We waited for a short while and hop on to our boat and started with river cruise, entering to the cave, seeing the unseen, breathing as much as possible to clear our lungs! Clean air, Clean air.

Without saying much, we shall enjoy all the photos here. :)

- Fog -

That's how I love nature, it's always having us to wonder. Time and patient, we shall see the special scene.

I love Bama Longevity village, the food was special and green. Absolutely, encouraging elderly to visit there if they could. Many say money is the first priority, but I think both are, health and money. Without health, we can't earn for a living. When we can't earn, we can see the world better. :)

Cheers~
